CHALLENGE
Spare parts management in the oil and gas sector is a major challenge, marked by high inventory maintenance costs, delivery times that can exceed a year, and risks of obsolescence. These factors have been intensified by recent crises, such as the pandemic and global supply chain limitations, highlighting the need for more agile and resilient alternatives.

SOLUTION
Creating digital inventories with on-demand production, reducing physical inventories and dependence on suppliers, becomes possible with the adoption of additive manufacturing. A pilot study, conducted by SENAI CIMATEC in partnership with Petrobras and Spare Parts 3D, analyzed more than 40,000 inventory items from refineries and exploration and production (E&P) units. With the support of the DigiPART
(SP3D) platform, based on artificial intelligence, more than 7,000 parts with potential for conversion to AM and economically attractive, i.e., prioritized by technical and economic criteria, were identified.

IMPACT
The results indicate that the application of digital inventories to economically attractive items could generate savings of around US$38.7 million over a five-year period in this pilot sample alone. Therefore, defining the use of Digital Passports establishes a reliable basis for the large-scale adoption of digital inventories. The study demonstrates that additive manufacturing not only reduces the costs and risks of
maintaining physical inventories, but also strengthens the digitization and robustness of the supply chain in the O&G sector in Brazil.

DESAFIO
